Endocrine Health
Intestinal microbiome affects many endocrine diseases including diabetes mellitus and thyroid diseases
Gut dysbiosis activates Tregs, which are responsible for homeostasis of both pro-inflammatory immune response and autoimmune processes. Autoimmune thyroid diseases (including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease) are ones of the most common organ-specific autoimmune disorders of increasing prevalence, which is currently higher than 5% worldwide. Recently, alteration of gut microbiota has been observed in patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in comparison with healthy controls: lower biodiversity, lower abundance of Bacteroidetes, and higher abundance of Firmicutes.

Since some probiotic strains have been reported to stabilize the levels of levothyroxine, and enable reduction of the dosage of hormone therapy in Hashimoto patients, we believe that the NORDBIOTIC strains may have beneficial effects on both intestinal dysbiosis and hormone therapy in autoimmune thyroiditis.
